Ely tops track invitational at Deer River

DEER RIVER- The Ely Timberwolves track team turned in strong performances at the five-team Deer River War Eagle Varsity Invitational on Monday, winning both the boys and girls divisions.
For the boys, Leo Stalmer and Eli Olson each struck gold twice on the day. Stalmer placed first in the 110 and 300-meter hurdles events, while Olson stretched his winning legs in the long jump and triple jump.
Top-ten finishers for the boys included:
100 meters – Caleb Larson, third, 12.74; Jack Rintala, tenth, 13.84.
200m – Caleb Larson, second, 25.44; Dylan Durkin, fourth, 25.94; Trenton Bishop, sixth, 26.14.
400m – Trenton Bishop, third, 1:02.74; Noah Axelsson, fifth, 1:08.14; John Schlitz, seventh, 1:12.44; Oren Solum, eighth, 1:15.
800m – Silas Solum, first, 2:12.4; Tory Hughley, fourth, 2:29.8; Wyatt Devine, fifth, 2:35.3.
1600m – Brooks Brenny, first, 5:28.5; Oliver Hohenstein, second, 5:29.6.
3200m – Mason Spate-Kurnava, second, 12:56.1; Blake Houde, third, 14:16.6.

Girls
The girls piled up points in the field events, with first-place finishes from Addison Forsman in long jump, Sarah Visser in triple jump, and Kaylin Visser in discus, where her winning throw would have placed second in the boys event. Grace LaTourell also took first in the 400-meter run, and the 4x800-meter relay team took top honors.
Top-ten finishers for the girls included:
100 meters – Lydia Schultz, fourth, 14.24; Anna Larson, fifth, 14.34; Miriam Messerschmidt, sixth, 14.44.
