Worringer missed the point entirely

Posted

Mary Worringer, in her letter to The Tower News and Timberjay last week about the Greenwood Town Board switching from the Timberjay to The Tower News as the Township’s official paper of record skipped over the reason why many people in Greenwood are upset with the switch. She again makes it a personal issue. It isn’t. It is about newspaper circulation and accessibility. More people in Greenwood take the Timberjay, either in print or online (The Tower News is not offered online). Greenwood people deserve the best opportunity to receive “heads up” important public notices that pertain to the Town Board, the Planning Commission and the Board of Adjustment.

The issue of The Tower News’s chronic misreporting of Township issues is just a sideshow. I count three major errors in The Tower News’s April 3 report on the March 25 Greenwood reorgan-ization meeting. Most important of the three, The Tower News confusingly reported on the issue of placing sirens throughout the township. The fact is that the Board voted 3-2 (Kirsten Reichel, Gene Baland, John Bassing vs. Rick Worringer, John Milbridge) to NOT move forward with the siren system. The Tower News article stated: “The board, by a vote of 3-2, had the audience vote on whether they should proceed to look for funding. This non-binding vote was approved. The board will look for funding, but the system isn’t approved by them, yet.” This reporting is totally incorrect, but it is, as I said earlier, just a sideshow. Getting public notices out to the people is the real issue.
