BOIS FORTE RESERVATION— The make-up of the Bois Forte Tribal Council will remain the same following elections held Tuesday. Incumbents Brandon Benner, Ray Toutloff, and David Morrison Sr., were all re-elected, despite strong showings from challengers Peter Drift Sr. and Tracey Dagen.

Morrison faced a particularly strong challenge from Peter Drift Sr. for the position of Secretary/Treasurer. Unofficial results posted Wednesday showed Morrison with 366 votes to Drift’s 354.

Toutloff, in the District II contest, garnered 153 votes to Dagen’s 127, to win his third term on the council.

The only blowout came in the District I contest, where Brandon Benner cruised to a 323-118 win over Gordy Adams Jr. “I was extremely honored for the support I have out there,” said Benner on Wednesday. “I have nothing but respect for those who chose to run against me,” he added.

Benner said he’ll continue to be a strong advocate for the band’s youth and will strive to provide strong and positive leadership over the next four years.

Toutloff was unavailable for comment as of press time.
