REGIONAL – Santa will making a few stops in northern Minnesota this week, with holiday celebrations this weekend in Cook and Orr.

Cook will celebrate a Country Christmas on Friday, Dec. 5.

Santa will arrive at the Comet Theater by 5:45 p.m. to visit with the children before the free movie, “Rudolph and the Island of Misfit Toys,” will be shown at 6:30 p.m. 

Other events that evening include the Cook Farmers Market being held at Cook City Hall from 4 to 7 p.m.

Glass artist, Ron Benson, will be at the Cook Public Library at 5 p.m. to talk about the inspiration for his commissioned work at the library.

 At 5:30 p.m. the Virgie Hegg Hospice Partners Lights of Love tree lighting ceremony will take place in the park by the gazebo.  Father Drew from St. Mary’s Church will provide the inspiration and prayer for the evening and board member, Nancy Reing, will lead the caroling. Cookies and apple cider will be served in the library after the caroling.

Orr will usher in the holiday season with its annual Snow City celebration on Saturday, Dec. 6.

The daylong festival begins with an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast at the Orr American Legion followed by a crafters’ show.

The popular Snow City parade begins at 1 p.m. and will be followed by a chance to visit with Santa Claus at the American Legion.

The festivities conclude with the Lights of Love ceremony, which will be held this year at Care Free Living Center in Orr, The assisted-living facility is located behind the Bay View Apartments in Orr.
