Sanders is sparking intelligent debate on important issues

Posted

I started hearing about Bernie Sanders and— already tired of the childishness of this political go-round—thought, “Who’s Bernie?”  And what makes Bernie different from all the others who are pursuing the Office of President?

Bernie Sanders has been recognized as a true independent thinker  during his long time in public service in Vermont.  Bernie describes himself as a Democratic Socialist— a man who honors the voices of the people and who acknowledges that our country flourishes because of a level of ‘socialism’ we exercise when we allow our government to fund roads, bridges, rail, airports, water systems, schools, public safety, etc.  Bernie believes that healthcare is a right that should be available to all and that our free public education system should be expanded to include college — a skilled, educated work force is the basis of a strong economy.  He does not endorse open borders.

Bernie Sanders is appalled by the way the super rich have manipulated our economy.  Every time a new tax break is given to a multi-million/billion dollar corporation, that money has to come from somewhere!  And the ‘where’ is the pockets of workers whose pay is stagnant and whose standard of living is falling.  Bernie wants to overturn Citizens United— because corporations are NOT people!

Bernie Sanders believes today what he has always believed - that EVERYONE needs to pay their fair share to keep this country great.  If the richest one percent of people in the country paid the same percentage of income taxes most of us do, there would be no debt crisis for Congress to worry about and we could rebuild our crumbling infrastructure.  He believes no one working full time should have to live in poverty, so supports a $15 minimum wage.

Bernie Sanders is running for the Democratic nomination for President.  His views are bound to make others take notice and hopefully will spark some intelligent debate.  I’m going to keep following him at berniesanders.com to see what happens next!
