John R. Perushek

John Robert “Pecksy” Perushek, 86, of Ely, died on Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011, at the Ely-Bloomenson Nursing Home. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 27 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Ely, with visitation for one hour prior. He is survived by his wife, Leona of Ely; children, John (Kathy) Perushek of Morrison, Ill., Kelly (Glen) Schmukler, Jessica Perushek, Robert Perushek, Kerry (Tammy) Perushek and their children, Bryce, Bryan and Brandon of Ely; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; special cousins, Charlie and Lori McNaulty; and six grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Stanley R. Martinson Jr.

Stanley “Punky” Raymond Martinson Jr., of Britt, died on Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011. He passed away after a very courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his family at his home. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 27 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Angora. Lunch will be served after the service.

He is survived by his wife, Cindy; son, Shawn; daughter, Nicole (Riley) and granddaughter, Alexandra, of Angora; sister, Theresa (Ron Setter) Martinson; nephews, Ron Hakkila and Jason (Star) Martinson; nieces, Dolly (Jeff) Hakkila and Larissa (Sean) Martinson; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews; sister-in-law, Sharon (Bobby) Johnson of Balkan; along with a very special friend, Laurel. She was there to cheer him up by sending a card and joke every day for over a year.

Betty M. Honkanen

Betty Marie Honkanen, 77, of Pike Township, died on Friday, Aug. 19, 2011. Private family services were held on Monday, Aug. 22 at Range Funeral Home in Virginia, with Pastor Donald C. Betty is survived by her devoted husband of 58 years, Robert; children, Steven (Elizabeth) Honkanen of Eagan, Lucy (Ken) Hopperstad of Bloomington, Suzanne Galles of Burnsville and Julie Greenbush of Apple Valley; grandchildren, Micaela Honkanen, Derek and Kristin Galles, and Brady Greenbush; sister, Ardelle (Dale) Nordby of Princeton; and several nieces and nephews.

Lorraine A. Walker

Lorraine A. Walker, 81, of Cook, died on Friday, Aug. 19, 2011. Memorial services were held on Tuesday, Aug. 23 at First Baptist Church in Cook, with Pastor Randy Swenson as the officiant. Interment was in Hillside Cemetery in Angora. Arrangements were with Mlaker Funeral Home in Cook.

Lorraine is survived by her husband of 63 years, Walter; son, Marty (Laurie) Walker of Britt; daughters, Ida (Larry) Clark of Prior Lake, Norma (Brent Peddicord) Walker of Ellicott, Md., and Iris (Donald) Sardella of Concord, Calif.; brother, Ralph (Shirley) Stordal of Marysville, Wash.; grandchildren, Alycia (Bill) Turgi, Naomi (Jason) Rogers, Nathan Clark, Michael (Theresa) Peddicord, Sandra (Josiah) Larson, Tony, Sarah and Matthew Sardella, Allyson and Natalie Walker; great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Kristina, Jonathan, Madalyn, Mikayla, Avery and Alyssa; and numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.

Shirley L. Klabunde

Shirley L. Klabunde, 74, of Virginia and Lake Vermilion-Tower, died on Thursday, Aug. 18, 2011, at the Virginia Convalescent Center. A funeral service was held on Tuesday, Aug. 23 at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Virginia, with Pastor Nathan Sager officiating. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery in Virginia. Arrangements were with Landmark Funeral Home of Virginia.

Survivors include two daughters, Kim Pesavento and Kristi McCarty, both of Virginia; son, Bryan Klabunde of Virginia; grandchildren, Ryan Klabunde and Alexis McCarty-Maki; and special aunt and uncle, Helen and Renold Pettinelli of Virginia.
