ELY – Ely city council member and Vermilion Community College instructor Paul Kess filed to run for Ely mayor this week.
When current mayor Ross Petersen ran for the post two years ago, he said at the time he intended to run for a single term.
“I intend to bring a positive approach to city government,” Kess said. “As I said when I ran for city council, I intend to keep the city’s Community Center. I said I would look hard at following the money in the city budget. I’ve done that (as council member) and I want to continue to do that.”
“My record has been to listen to all sides. Take lots of people’s advice,” he said, “ and try to find a balance. I’m hoping we can continue to find a more comprehensive way of looking at the city’s needs.”
“I’ve been a public servant for a long time and I want to continue to do that. I think Ely needs good leadership. I welcome more people to run. Communities are more revitalized when people are engaged. I not only hope to win, I intend to win,” he said.
