On Friday, Oct. 7, 2016, the Ely Timberwolves made the long trek to Siren, Wis., to play a football game. As a parent of a football player (#18), a teacher and a Siren resident for 28 years, I want to commend the young men who represented your school and your community on the evening of Oct. 7. You should be truly proud of these young men, their coaches, and the fans who made the trip down. It was an honor to have them come to Siren, and we enjoyed each and every one of them.
I met the bus when it came to the field, and immediately, I knew the Timberwolves were a class act. Their coach was respectful, and funny. The boys were dressed impeccably, and were all very polite. They are obviously a well-coached team, and they represented themselves, and the community of Ely, extremely well.
As the announcer of the game, I saw first-hand the hard-hitting game of football they played, with a keen sense of respect for their teammates, and their opponents. My son commented that evening about hard hits, but good solid hits - he had some bruises to prove it!
Your school, and your community, should be proud of these young men who were amazing ambassadors of the Ely area. Your fans drove a long way and they too should be commended. Even your local radio broadcasters came to Siren to allow those not able to make the trip to enjoy the game.
Congratulations on a great game, but more important than winning or losing, congratulations on raising some amazing young men!
Thanks again and best of luck to the entire team, and your school!
