Ronald Reagan did an end-run around Congress when they wouldn't fund the Contras. Drugs were smuggled into this country to sell in order to get money to buy guns for the Contras. Oliver North took the fall for this while Reagan and everyone else got off scot-free on it. Interestingly enough, Nancy Reagan advocated "just say no" when it came to drugs. The pilot who flew to South America to pick up drugs and fly to Mena, Arkansas to drop them off in exchange for guns, Barry Seal was eventually murdered by the Cartel because the CIA, FBI, and the DEA washed their hands of the whole thing when the operation was over. Ronald Reagan was not a good President at all in my opinion. Not just for this but for his trickle-down theory which doesn't work, and for getting rid of the air traffic controllers and their union. The 80's weren't a good decade.
