Except for a case of beaver fever, you *can* dip you cup into a Boundary Waters lake and drink the water. Out in the middle of the lake, you can probably avoid the beaver fever, too.

It’s a pity that Donald Trump, Jr. doesn’t fancy walleye or salmon out of the St. Louis River or its Lake Superior estuary. It is also a pity than any issue in the Trump administration is doomed without a family member or celebrity champion.

It’s a fact that PolyMet’s proposal is more like the Pebble Mine than the Twin Metals proposal is. PolyMet and Pebble are both upstream wet tailings dam impoundments. Although no specific proposal has yet issued, Antofagasta/Twin Metals had said it would use dry stacking of the tailings, a superior and safer technology.

I don’t think it fair to hold up the Pebble Mine as a reason to oppose Twin Metals while ignoring the elephant in the room, PolyMet.
