The establishment of the BWCA 40 years ago is nothing to celebrate the for thousands of people living in the area, and those that had property and businesses there. 150 thousand people visited the park last year. The numbers have decreased every year, to less folks that visit the state fair on a really bad, rainy day. Without logging and mining, the entire Iron Range would still be a wilderness. I’m a miner, retiring in a few years. I sure would like to see Ely booming again. New residents that have ‘retired’ there are welcome of course. Unfortunately, they won’t be having children. Remember folks-‘ If it’s not grown, it is mined.’
