Perhaps the journalist should have performed a little fact checking on Huhta's claims.

(1) The first thing I notice is the propaganda spewed by Huhta. He says that you can charter a Twin Cities Cessna XLS for about $1850 an hour.

That is completely and totally false. A Cessna XL or XLS in the Twin Cities goes for a minimum of $3200-$3800 per hour for a charter. A simple call to a charter company would have shown that Huhta is misleading you. If you can't trust him on this simple number, how can you trust him on any of the numbers he spoke.

(2) The other thing Huhta fails to mention is that GRE has had a jet for many many years. He makes it sound like they have just lately gone crazy with money and purchased a jet.

The fact is that the new jet was purchased to replace the old jet. It’s exactly what each of us do with our automobiles whether leased or purchased. This normal activity can hardly be described as unnecessary or extravagant.

(3) The goal of any corporation is to provide a very high quality service and supply to the Customers at a reasonable market price. The goal of a power company is not to provide the lowest cost intermittent fluctuating power with limited capacity. That is exactly what these rural towns had with their own town generators before professional power companies stepped in to help out. Its like comparing Apples to Oranges.

(4) Flying commercially may appear cheaper to someone who has no business sense whatsoever. Using that mindset, it is an undisputable fact that it is far more flexible and cheaper to ride a bicycle to your destination.

As long as were checking facts, lets take a look at the increase in compensation that Huhta has received over the past years. Hmmm... If he really wanted to save the Customer money, perhaps he should start there. It is a nice perk to have your home computer, internet access and telephone paid for by the towns people. Whos taking advantage of whom?
