The citizens’ petition calling for an investigation of ISD 2142’s recent referendum campaign is on its way to the state auditor.
The petition was certified earlier this week by the St. Louis County Auditor’s office as having sufficient valid signatures to move forward.
According to Paul Tynjala, of the county auditor’s office, the petition submitted contained approximately 1,400 names. He said 1,229 names were found to match up with existing county election records. Based on state statute, petitioners needed about 400 valid signatures to meet the requirement for an investigation.
Tower City Clerk-Treasurer Tim Kotzian said Thursday that he had received the petition back from the county auditor, with the attached certification, and would be forwarding it to the state auditor’s office immediately.
