The entire Ely Fire Department got a chance to give their new aerial ladder truck a once over that went far beyond kicking the tires.

On Wednesday evening, the 24 department members received training on working basic ladder operations.

Ely Fire Chief Lou Gerzin said that though they didn’t continually drive around the block to practice arriving at a scene, they set the outriggers, removed the ladder from its nested position, maneuvered and positioned the ladder, climbed up and put it back in its original location.
